Kate Maxwell (redheaded Maureen O'Hara), the feisty proprietress of a saloon in 1870s Wyoming Territory, is torn in her attraction between a promoter (William Bishop) and the town sheriff (Alex Nicol). Kate finds out -- too late -- that the promoter has been using her to smuggle contraband beef, so she and the sheriff struggle to set things right again.
