Norman McLean's book serves as inspiration for this drama about Mac (Jerry O'Connell), a hothead striving to become a member of Montana's National Forest Service in 1919. First, though, he must take control of his temper, a feat that proves difficult when he encounters card sharks from the neighboring village. But with the help of a wise ranger (Sam Elliott), Mac may just keep his cool and snag his dream job.
