With San Francisco debutante Jessica Poole (Debbie Reynolds) preparing to marry a Napa Valley cattle rancher (Tab Hunter), her prodigal playboy father, Biddeford "Pogo" Poole (Fred Astaire), decides to reintroduce himself into the family fold. But just what exactly are his intentions? Oozing charm, he wastes no time in showing up his far less sophisticated future son-in-law in an attempt to win back his daughter's affections.
