The Long, Hot Summer

  (1958)
Director Martin Ritt combines two William Faulkner stories into a smoldering drama starring Paul Newman as Ben Quick, a wandering handyman who arrives in Frenchman's Bend, Mississippi, where menacing rumors about his past circulate.
