The Long Absence

Parisian café owner Therese (Alida Valli) still feels a deep loneliness 16 years after her husband vanishes. When a tramp (Georges Wilson, in a BAFTA-nominated performance) wanders by humming a familiar tune, Therese feels sure he's her missing spouse. Learning he has amnesia, she brings him home, hoping to jog his memory and regain her lost love. The film won several international awards, including the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival.
