One of the first 19th century artists to paint contemporary subjects, Frenchman Édouard Manet created a transition between Realism and Impressionism. Unlike the other Impressionists of his time, Manet believed in showing his work at the Paris Salon, the official art exhibition of the Académie des Beaux-Arts. His iconoclastic ideas and controversial stance are explored in this captivating study of Manet's life and works.
