Ann Blyth stars as troubled songbird Helen Morgan, who rose from obscurity in the 1920s to become a singing sensation and the toast of Broadway for her turn in the hit musical "Show Boat," in this biopic directed by Michael Curtiz. But Morgan's on-again, off-again romance with bootlegger boyfriend Larry Maddux (Paul Newman), heavy drinking, and financial ruin wreck the starlet's career and drive her into rehab, while she hopes for a comeback.
