The Crucible

Les Sorcieres de Salem
Adapted for the screen by Jean-Paul Sartre, Arthur Miller's play comes to life in this 1957 French film starring Simone Signoret as a 17th century Puritan woman accused of witchcraft by her husband's ex-lover. The subsequent trial incites a maelstrom of hysteria and suspicion in the Salem, Mass., community.
