The Confession

  (1970)
L'Aveu
Gerard (Yves Montand) is a high-ranking eastern European civil servant convinced he is being followed. His paranoia proves true when he's arrested and interrogated by government investigators. Mentally tortured and confined to solitary, Gerard accepts his position of scapegoat when he signs papers confessing treason. Director Costa-Gavras's cry against totalitarianism is based on the real-life 1951 trial of Czech communist Artur London.
