Mediterranean ferryboat captain Henry St. James (Alec Guinness) has things well organized for himself. He's got a loving, "veddy" English wife, Maud (Celia Johnson), in Gibraltar and a possessive, hot-blooded mistress, Nita (Yvonne De Carlo), stowed away in Tangiers. It's a perfect arrangement, as long as neither woman decides to follow him to the other port. And what's the chance of that happening?
