The Winter Guest

Alan Rickman, who also co-wrote the screenplay, makes his directorial debut in this exploration of the lives and relationships of four couples living in a Scottish seaside town. Emma Thompson plays opposite her real-life mother, Phyllida Law, as a young, grief-stricken widow who resists her mother's efforts to break through her defensive shield. Another plot thread follows a couple of dotty old townsfolk who love to attend funerals.
