Originally airing on BBC TV, The Wedding Gift is based on the true story of Deric (Jim Broadbent) and Diana Longden (Julie Walters), who were faced with the debilitating symptoms of what was at the time undefined Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome, with Diana a paralytic prone to blackouts. Surprisingly, the two leads invest their characters with wit and warmth as Diana battles the disease and the public ignorance that surrounded it.
