A former spy for the band of marauding Confederates known as Quantrill's Raiders, Jeff Travis (Randolph Scott) moves to Arizona in hopes of making a fresh start. But Travis can't escape his notorious background and gets involved with a crook planning a major gold heist. When he falls in love with Shelby (Joan Weldon), Travis tries to go straight and is targeted by some vengeful thugs. George Macready, Lee Marvin and Ernest Borgnine co-star.
