Phantom of the Opera

In this 1943 remake of the silent horror film, violinist Erik Claudin (Claude Rains) worships soprano Christine Dubois (Susanna Foster) from afar and secretly aids her career. Believing a music publisher has stolen his concerto, Claudin kills him and is disfigured by acid in the process. He takes refuge in the Paris Opera House, where his shadowy figure terrorizes the theater company. This classic film won an Oscar for Best Cinematography.
