Pennsylvania in the 19th century is the setting for this drama about a detective (Richard Harris) who's given the assignment to go undercover in a town of coal miners. Hoping to reveal that the owners of the mines are exploiting their Irish-American workers, the detective must gain the trust of a rebellious group called the Molly Maguires, including its leader (Sean Connery), whose quest for social justice is unwavering.
