New Jersey teen Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) suffers serious culture shock when he moves with his mother from the East Coast to the Golden State. And it only gets worse when the school bully -- a gang leader with a black belt in karate -- starts hassling him. Luckily, his apartment building boasts a resident martial arts master (Noriyuki "Pat" Morita), who agrees to train Daniel and ends up teaching him much more than self-defense.
