Pampered Southern belle Maggie (Ally Sheedy) and her sorority sisters are living the cosseted good life, free from the worry and strife affecting the rest of the South during the Civil Rights era. But when she meets a young man who talks about the impending changes of the South, she knows her life will change too. After Maggie sees police officers brutalizing a black man during an Elvis Presley concert, she becomes an activist.
