Suburbanite Chet Ripley (John Candy) takes his family to a lakeside resort for what he's thinking will be a quiet vacation to get away from it all. Just as the Ripley family is enjoying the scenery, snobby brother-in-law Roman Craig (Dan Aykroyd) and his snooty brood suddenly show up. Unexpected adventure ensues as the two families are forced to cope with Mother Nature. Annette Bening makes her big-screen debut as Roman's wife Kate.
