The Fighting Sullivans

  (1944)
The Sullivans
Lloyd Bacon's Oscar-nominated film dramatizes the real-life tragedy of the Sullivan boys, five brothers from Iowa who all served -- and perished -- aboard the USS Juneau when the ship sank at Guadalcanal in 1942. (The film Saving Private Ryan was inspired, in part, by the Sullivans' story.) Released in the waning days of World War II, this heartbreaking drama stars Edward Ryan, John Alvin, George Offerman Jr., John Campbell and James Cardwell.
