Jack Palance, Ida Lupino, Shelley Winters and Rod Steiger star in this cynical take on the old Hollywood studio system. Palance is a famous actor who's trying to leave show business so he can reconcile with his estranged wife -- so he refuses to sign a studio contract that would tie him up for the next 14 years. Steiger is the studio honcho who will beg, coerce and blackmail Palance into making a deal.
