American officer Steve Arnold (Harvey Keitel) mercilessly prosecutes controversial German symphony conductor Wilhelm Furtwängler (Stellan Skarsgård), one of the most renowned of his profession in the 1930s. Arnold sets out to prove Furtwängler as a standard war criminal working under Adolf Hitler's regime. István Szabó directs this film based on a true story about disharmony among art and politics.
