When a man's body is found strangled and mutilated, Detectives Kaoru Utsumi (Kou Shibasaki) and Shumpei Kusanagi (Kazuki Kitamura) employ brilliant physicist Manabu Yukawa (Masaharu Fukuyama) to decipher clues and fill logic loopholes as they zero in on a killer. Soon, an elaborate web of lies and alibis unravels, and Yukawa finds himself in a battle of wits with suspect Tetsuya Ishigami (Shin'ichi Tsutsumi), a friend he considers a true genius.
