Journalist Jonathan Fisher (Christopher Reeve) is under the gun: He must produce yet another winning story by deadline. Unable to find one, he makes up Tyrone, a pimp who supposedly gives him a scoop about thug life. Jonathan rockets to stardom based on that article, but his lie catches up with him when a pimp, Fast Black (Morgan Freeman), asks to meet him; it seems Tyrone is a lot like him, and Fast Black wants to know why.
