Shirley Temple stars in this musical as an orphan who changes the life of a playboy. When young Barbara "Ching-Ching" (Temple), the former ward of Chinese missionaries, gets lost in Shanghai, she meets Tommy Randall (Robert Young), an American ladies' man who helps her. Later, Ching-Ching stows away aboard a U.S.-bound ship, where she orchestrates a high-seas romance between irresponsible Tommy and fellow passenger Susan Parker (Alice Faye).
