After a midwife accidentally mixes up two sets of twins, the mismatched pairs grow up to live very different lives during the French Revolution. Donald Sutherland and Gene Wilder star in dual roles as the twins -- one pair noble, the other peasants. Numerous instances of mistaken identity ensue as the twins try to escape the guillotine and avoid capture by the malevolent Duke d'Escargot (Victor Spinetti). Bud Yorkin directs this boisterous spoof.
