This powerful gothic tale finds odious backwoodsman Mr. Grimes (Gustav von Seyffertitz) and his white-trash kin running a "baby farm," holding half-starved orphans virtually in bondage. When Grimes threatens to pitch an abducted newborn into the gator-infested bog, eldest orphan Molly (Mary Pickford) hits the breaking point and decides to guide the children to freedom through the marsh. The ensuing chase embodies cliff-hanging cinema at its best.
