German filmmaker Hans W. Geissendoerfer finds purpose amidst the darkness in this drama about Elisabeth (Maria Schrader), a writer lost in despair when her husband dies suddenly. Elisabeth abandons her children to die in the woods, but is stopped when she discovers the body of a female stranger whom she realizes, through a little investigation, has lived a full, complex and ultimately admirable life in spite of the tragedy that befell her.
