Adapted from the novel by Herman Hesse and filmed in a breathtaking part of Northern India by director-screenwriter Conrad Rooks and cinematographer Sven Nykvist, Siddhartha tells the story of a young man who seeks spiritual salvation but follows the path to material wealth instead -- and soon realizes his life is empty and meaningless. Abandoning his riches, he resumes his search for spiritual well-being, with fascinating results.
