Sibling rivalry leads to murder in Zhang Yuan's dramatic tale of two stepsisters with opposite personalities. Each parent sides with their natural-born child, and eventually, feisty Xiaolan (Li Jun) kills her quiet sister (Liu Lin) and goes to jail. Seventeen years later, Xiaolan is allowed to visit her family for New Year's, but no one comes for her. A prison guard (Li Bingbing) takes pity and escorts her on what becomes a bittersweet journey.
