Over two years in the mid-1960s, Ian Brady and Myra Hindley raped, tortured and murdered five children aged 10 to 16. Eventually imprisoned for life, the pair was undone by Hindley's tormented brother-in-law (Matthew McNulty) and became a lightning rod for political and prosecutorial grandstanding.
