Burt Lancaster plays a sleazy tabloid publisher in Scandal Sheet, who is interested only in selling papers. Reporter Helen Grant is in serious economic trouble, and Lancaster hires her to dig up dirt on a recovering alcoholic actor due to her close friendship with his wife. Helen must now choose between her friendship and journalistic integrity on one hand and her desperation and Lancaster's persuasive ways on the other.
