Love is put to the test when calamity shakes up the city by the bay. Clark Gable stars as Blackie Norton, a nightclub owner whose paramour, Mary Blake (Jeanette MacDonald), works as a singer in the joint. Mary's talent soon snags the attention of Jack Burley (Jack Holt), a landlord who falls head over heels in love with her. In no time, a romantic tug-of-war ensues, culminating in a battle that rages even as earthquakes and fire shatter the city.
