A colt named Lucky is born aboard an African-bound German supply ship filled with work horses. But when the horses are forced to swim for shore, the colt (voiced by Lukas Haas) is separated from his mother. For a while, an orphan boy working in the stables discovers Lucky and looks after him. But when war breaks out, Lucky flees to the desert, where he befriends an antelope that teaches him to survive on his own.
