In the dystopian future, global megacorporations rule the planet. They maintain their power by channeling and releasing human hostility through rollerball -- an anything-goes, worldwide sport designed to show the forcibly subdued populace that individualism is futile. But when the popularity of the game's finest player, Jonathan E. (James Caan), threatens their reign, the corporate bigwigs devise a scheme that could put the superstar six feet under.
