The love between couple Antoine (Jean-Pierre Darroussin) and Helene (Carole Bouquet) is going downhill, worsened by Helene's hectic job. Troubled by their situation, Antoine turns to alcohol, prompting Helene to threaten to leave him while at a bar one night. Intoxicated and upset, Antoine insists that Helene wait in the car, only to find her gone when he leaves. He goes after her and ends up meeting a strange hitchhiker with a dark secret.
