Filmmaker Davide Ferrario retraces the journey of writer Primo Levi, who walked home to Italy after his 1945 liberation from Auschwitz. A mixture of historical clips and footage from Ferrario's modern-day trip showcases the region's past and present. Featuring visits to Chernobyl, a run-down traveling zoo in Moldava and an open-air Hungarian market, the travelogue offers an insightful commentary on contemporary Eastern Europe.
