Stagestruck Lily Mars (Judy Garland) longs to hit the big time in this delightful musical directed by Norman Taurog. When she meets Broadway producer John Thornway (Van Heflin), Lily -- despite her persistence -- can't persuade him to cast her in his play, so she trails him to New York City, where she struggles to land a gig. But Thornway, who's beginning to fall for the charming and talented Lily, is reluctant to lend a hand.
