Based on the novel Pierre or The Ambiguities by Herman Melville, this film tells the story of Pierre (Guillaume Depardieu), a successful, young writer who lives with his mother (Catherine Deneuve) and is engaged to a lovely woman. Despite his perfect life, a strange, dark-haired woman haunts Pierre's dreams. When the woman appears in real life claiming to be his long-lost sister, Pierre falls madly in love, instigating a downward spiral.
