Marianne (Deneuve), the alcoholic wife of a jeweler, doesn't realize her husband is morally and financially bankrupt until he asks her one day to hold onto five stolen diamonds. He's found dead the next day, and Marianne and the loot are soon pursued by a diamond cartel, her brother-in-law and a former lover.
