Smith endeavors to send a spacecraft to Mars, where it will study the planet's water and soil. This absorbing documentary chronicles the making of the 420 million-mile mission through all the painstaking preparations and right up to the spacecraft's predawn launch from Cape Canaveral, Fla., in August 2007.
