Julie (Irene Dunne) and Roger (Cary Grant) are a love-struck married couple who desperately want to have a child. Unfortunately, an earthquake causes a pregnant Julie to lose the baby she's carrying. The two attempt to rise above it and adopt to fulfill their dreams of parenthood, but when tragedy strikes again, it threatens to tear them apart for good.
