Dutch Hendrick van der Zee (James Mason), a dashing and mysterious yachtsman, docks in a tiny Spanish seaport, where he romances American beauty Pandora Reynolds (Ava Gardner), a dead ringer for his wife who died long ago -- four centuries ago, in fact. Writer-director Albert Lewin cleverly adapts the legend of the Flying Dutchman into this romantic fantasy drama, an overlooked gem shot by ace cinematographer Jack Cardiff.
