Prosperous and well-respected villager Padayappa (Rajnikanth) rebuffs the advances of the aggressive Nilambari (Ramya Krishnan) and instead falls for her servant, a humiliation the spurned woman cannot forgive. Nursing her bitterness for nearly two decades, Nilambari bides her time and waits for the perfect moment to take her revenge on the man who broke her heart.
