A fascinating documentary in the style of Errol Morris, Off the Charts chronicles the fearless types who, via advertisements in the backs of magazines, send heartfelt poems (and a check for $295) to be made into hit songs -- hopefully. What few of them realize is that of the estimated 200,000 songs that have been concocted by this mail-order method, not one has ever been a hit.
