Odds Against Tomorrow

  (1959)
David Burke (Ed Begley), a former cop and ex-con, convinces bigoted Southerner Earl Slater (Robert Ryan) to rob an upstate bank with him. Burke also recruits Johnny Ingram (Harry Belafonte), a gambling addict hopelessly in debt. But when Slater finds out Ingram is black, sparks begin to fly -- and continue to fly even during the heist. John Lewis of the Modern Jazz Quartet contributes a cool, avant-garde score. Robert Wise directs.
