Laurie Collyer's documentary chronicles the ups and downs of a poverty-stricken Puerto Rican family living in New York. The film centers on the ongoing struggles of the Torres-Gutierrez clan as eldest son Robert suffers alienation after becoming the first family member to graduate from college, siblings Beti and Tati deal with drug addiction, and mother Marta resorts to selling her homemade pasteles to support the extended family.
