High-society New York journalist Edith Iglauer (Jaclyn Smith) half-heartedly accepts a new assignment that will have her writing about fishermen in British Columbia. Her disdain for the project and the location are evident from the start, and her feelings only worsen when she meets reclusive fisherman John Daly (Tim Matheson). The two butt heads immediately, but beneath it all, they begin to develop feelings for each other.
