A Polish contractor named Nowak (Jeremy Irons, in a knockout performance) gathers a group of builders to provide cheap labor for a government official working in London. As supervisor and the only English speaker among the men, Nowak holds a position of power over his crew. But when an unforeseen military coup occurs back in their home country, Nowak withholds the news from his comrades, a decision that could prove to have disastrous results.
