Writer-director Albert Brooks offers his take on "modern" romance (circa 1981), following the efforts of hopeless neurotic Robert Cole (Brooks) to find -- and keep -- a woman's love. Alternately wooed and discarded by Cole, who can't make up his mind, bank executive Mary Harvard (Kathryn Harrold) may be the most patient girlfriend in the world … which could make her his perfect match. George Kennedy and James L. Brooks turn up in cameo roles.
