Carnelle (Holly Hunter), an oversexed hellion who was orphaned as a child, has always played second fiddle to her beautiful Southern belle cousin -- a past Miss Firecracker contest winner. But Carnelle's ready to turn the tables when she sets her sights on the current crown. Hunter originated her role -- by turns fiery and comic -- in the off-Broadway version of the movie (which was an important steppingstone to her eventual film debut).
